The G20 Summit Hangzhou was successfully wrapped up, Yuexiu’s “little green lotuses” completed their mission with flying colors. From August 12 to September 6 our university’s “little green lotuses” served 1,000 people in total with service time of up to 1,580 hours.
During the Summit, 34 volunteers of our university were sent to the Airport Affairs Service group, News Publicity Service group, Corporate Leader Service group and Off-site Service group. Some of them guided foreign guests at the VIP lounge, the international hall and the domestic hall of the airport; some of them assisted working staff in dispatching vehicles off-site and on-site; some of them answered questions at the welcome desk and help desk; some collected pictures and videos at the news center while some helped with security check, journalists’ interview and maintenance of order, etc.
Some volunteers picked up guests at the airport for 89 times within one day, 136 people in all; some served with smile for over ten hours and said “hello” for over 200 times every day; some took over 30,000 steps as calculated by WeChat; volunteers jokingly called themselves the “most sun-proof” little lotus, the “most lonely” little lotus, “the most burdened” little lotus, the “most late”, the “most rushing” and the “most still” little lotus...... They were like wind-up motors and started being busy at the moment they entered the site. Hectic as it was, they kept their oath and presented their most beautiful posture with actual actions. They didn’t regret being busy!
34 independent individuals, 23 jobs and 6 service sites brought them together and created a “little green lotus” with amazing light. The completion of each task was inseparable from the help and encouragement of fellows. They said that the strength of one “little green lotus” was minimal but the 34 “little green lotuses” together were considerably powerful.
“Little green lotuses” in uniform appeared especially refreshing and splendid among participating guests in suit. Some of them served important international politicians on the 2nd World Internet Conference; some served as interpreters at some national sports events and some were “volunteer masters” with about 5,000 service hours...... Although they were rich in experience, they still treated each task with prudence and meticulousness.
Besides, Yuexiu’s “little green lotuses” won unanimous praise of participating guests with their outstanding foreign language proficiency and enthusiastic volunteer services. Seven foreign guests including an American government officer, an Russian interpreter and the president of American ATKearney Company wrote thank-you notes to extend their gratitude to our university’s volunteers for their careful and considerate services.
