--Our University’s Foreign Overseas Students Participate in the “Celebrate G20 and Jointly Build Chinese Dream” Entertainment Performance of Zhejiang Universities’ Foreign Overseas Students
In the evening of June 13, 2016, Zhejiang Universities’ Foreign Overseas Students Entertainment Performance with the theme of “Celebrate G 20 and Jointly Build Chinese Dream” kicked off in Zhejiang Conservatory of Music. Over 100 foreign students coming from 12 colleges and universities including Zhejiang University of Technology participated in the performance. They mixed different countries’ arts, brought the world’s cultures together and presented a splendid show for the audience. GE Huijun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Provincial Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Provincial Committee, ZHAO Yide, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Provincial Committee and secretary of CPC Hangzhou Committee, XIE Shuangcheng, deputy mayor of Hangzhou and LIU Xiping, head of provincial education department, and media leaders in Hangzhou, etc. attended the show.
12 foreign students of our university coming from ten countries such as U.S., Swiss, Japan and South Korea took part in the performance, and performed the chorus and chanting program “Song of Yu the Great”. “I miss the ancient great man Yu. At that time, flood was everywhere and there’s no clean land......” On the stage, our university’s foreign students wore traditional Chinese clothes and expressed their reverence for Yu the Great with their high and tactful singing. BAI Tianxing from America, Joanna from New Zealand, PIAO Ensheng from Swiss and Abdullah from Yemen chanted the heart-warming story of Yu the Great passing his home yet not going inside for three times with their proficient Chinese language. Students extended their great respect for Yu the Great by eulogizing him. Bursts of applause can be heard from the audience. Provincial and municipal leaders spoke highly of our university’s foreign students’ performance.
After the performance, foreign students of our university received the on-site interview of Zhejiang Daily, Zhejiang Education News and Zhejiang Economics TV Station. They told journalists their interpretation of Yu the Great. American student BAI Tianxing of our university said, “Yu the Great showed his sense of responsibility by not going home for three times although he passed it. It’s the great spiritual front of Zhejiang people. We hope to sing it out. We want to let more people learn about Zhejiang and China through our singing. At the same time, G20 is the pageant of all. We, as the host, need to greet guests from all over the world and spread excellent culture of China.”
The performance fully demonstrated our foreign students’ elegant bearing, built the favorable atmosphere of “Celebrate G20” and deliver the voice of Zhejiang. Our foreign students well interpreted their understanding of Shaoxing and Zhejiang with their singing and emotions.
