On April 19 the Jinghu Campus Library at Zhejiang Yuexiu Foreign Languages University opened to the public. It is the first  “Reading from the Group Up” Library in Shaoxing City. In its huge, open-floor designed Reading Hall, students can sit on the floor in threes and fives, and just read, while the book cases are just right there by them.

It is estimated that the Jinghu Campus Library at Zhejiang Yuexiu has a total area of 47,000 square meters, with a collection of over 700,000 books. The journalists discovered that the huge Reading Hall employed an open-floor plan design where students could just sit down on the floor, flip through books which were neatly stored on the shelves of low bookcases with newspapers and magazines on top. To provide easy and comfortable access to reading materials, there scattered some soft cushions which students could either sit on or lean against while reading, providing an enticingly natural and comfortable reading area for students.

In addition to this huge Reading Hall, there are self-service borrowing/returning counters and search and research areas on both sides. There are also, in all upper floors, reading rooms, salons and small tutoring areas to support different learning needs of different students. The library exhibits our university’s dedication and support to student learning, while it is also a place where faculty, staff and students can all study, pursue academic goals, as well as explore various kinds of knowledge. This library, built under the principle of “high aiming, high quality facilities, and high standards”, was completed after three years of intensive construction.
